The pub is located in the attractive village of Ludgershall. It sits opposite an excellent children’s play area that is well equipped with modern safe equipment. A traditionally styled building the Bull is reasonably small. You enter through the beer patio which has amble seating for sunny days. Once inside you enter the public bar which is split into two smaller areas. The restaurant itself is at the rear of the building. At the weekend the cliental are a mixture of locals and people dining. The front bar on occasion can become quite loud if busy. From eating here many times I would comment that this is when the pub is at its best a mixture of drinkers and people dining. Other times when less busy the atmosphere of the place feels a little flat. You’re likely to be greeted by Pat who is the current landlady. It’s fair to say she has her own unique style in dealing with customers, but generally will over you a warm welcome. You will notice plenty of banter between her and the locals. The menu is a selection based on a traditional English three course menu. Worth noting are the steaks which are from a local butcher. There is also a special board which is updated occasionally. The food is cooked by Richard the pub landlord. On a Sunday the pub offers a good selection of roasts, beef, lamb, pork or chicken are generally on offer all day. To summarise the Bull & Butcher, if you fancy popping out for traditional pub grub, then it delivers on that front. It’s a country pub so expect good portions but at the same time don’t expect silver services and over engineered food. One final note is that on every 1st Saturday in the month the pub opens early morning for their builders and fairies fried breakfast. Be warned the builder’s breakfast takes some doing! Children are welcome, when supervised. The pub provides standard facilities, including baby chairs.
