Another day on the farm

Well, the veggie patch is really starting to take shape. I excitedly planted out my courgettes, only to loose two more to slugs, and have filled the previously empty bed with the baby sweetcorn and pumpkins that were getting themselves started in the greenhouse.

The contents of the greenhouse have also expanded; peppers and tomatoes have been repotted into troughs, round three of lettuces have been planted up and the kids have planted some aubergine and artichoke seeds. I'm not sure why, nobody in our house likes aubergines and I can't see my kids eating artichokes!

The chickens have been busy too, we have about four million eggs - I'm giving them away everywhere, friends, neighbours, random people that pass our house when I am in the front garden.

Day 1 of Summers Rehab

My mare who did a suspensory ligament in Jan 09 started day one of her first spa treatment today, an equine spa which has been developed to help the healing and aid faster recovery of such injuries. Summer was not at all impressed at the idea of being walked into a strange machine which starts to fill up with ice cold water and pump it around and between her legs (think jacuzzi for horses type image) after a few attempts by her to trample me as she made a hasty exit out the front we finally got her used to the idea, next step to fill the spa up with water to her knees and try to get her to stay put for ten minutes! I'll keep you posted...

The Haphazard Gardener

A sunny bank holiday (who knew such a thing existed) means only one thing - I've overspent at the garden centre.

The sunny weather always inspires me to get out and sort out the garden and as I've promised to make a more concerted effort with the veggies this year I've been making the most of it.

Sad news..

Very sad news that Penny passed away on Saturday 4 April. She could not bear the pain any longer, was heavily sedated and drifted away early on Saturday morning. Her funeral was held on Friday 17th on the Isle of Wight - there were 10 of us that travelled down together. The funeral was beautiful, Penny had planned it and as we left the church they played "always look on the bright side of life" - how very typical Penny!! Throughout the day we went from being in hysterics with our tummies and cheeks hurting so much from laughing and then crying so much our eyes were red and our noses blocked..now we all feel incredibly empty and sad. We are planning on organising a get together in or around Thame for anyone who couldn't make the funeral - will keep you posted.
